Description

RUPES Xtra Cut Compound – XC-2 is a highly abrasive polish (compound) for removing the most severe defects on gelcoats in the aeronautical, nautical industry or for domestic furniture (counters, display units, etc.)

It can be used as a rough cut during the correction phase and must then be followed by a finishing polish pass in order to achieve a glossy result.

The abrasives present in this XC-2 formulation allow for better cutting than in the previous XC-1 version. The finish left behind will also be much better than on the previous version.

Xtra Cut Compound – XC-2 can be used with a rotary machine or with an orbital machine. The use of a more or less abrasive pad (twisted wool or natural wool) will allow you to prioritize more or less the cut or the cut/finish balance.

We recommend using Xtra Cut Compound – XC-2 with a twisted wool pad RUPES ( série 9.BL...H comme le 9.BL180H par exemple) if you want the best possible correction without worrying about the finish. Otherwise, the wool pad RUPES (series 9.BL...F) will also be perfect with a slightly better finish. These two pads must be used with a rotary polisher only and a suitable backing plate (RUPES LH19E polisher)

You can also use Xtra Cut Compound – XC-2 with pads for orbital polishers if you prefer to use this type of machine. In that case, we recommend the RUPES D-A Coarse Wool Polishing Pad ( series 9.NW...)


The water-based formulation of Xtra Cut Compound – XC-2 makes it a very low-dust polish during use.

How to use RUPES Xtra Cut Compound – XC-2 polish?

  1. Carefully select the pad model based on defect severity and the type of machine you are using (rotary, dual action). 
  2. Center your pad on the backing plate.
  3. Apply a generous amount of polish directly onto the pad for the first use to thoroughly prime all fibers. Spread evenly over the fibers with your finger. For subsequent passes, 3 large pea-sized drops will suffice.
  4. Spread your polish quickly at low speed (speed 2-3 on dual action and 900 RPM on rotary) over a small working area (approx. 60x60 cm).
  5. Then work your polish at maximum speed on a dual action polisher (speed 6) or at 1500-1800 RPM on a rotary. Be careful not to apply excessive pressure on sharp edges and body lines.
  6. Finish your polishing cycle when the residual polish film turns very thin and virtually clear.
  7. Buff off residual polish with a dedicated microfiber towel (e.g., COCKTAIL MICROFIBERS Black Velvet) using a panel wipe / inspection spray (e.g., Reveal Lite RUPES).
  8. Inspect your finish and follow up with a finishing polish and suitable pad.

Tip: Remember to clean your pad regularly with a dedicated pad cleaner like ZviZZer Pad Cleaner to keep your pad free from polish dust and prevent fibers from matting. Your workflow and results will be significantly improved. Spray Pad Cleaner directly onto the pad, work it into the foam/fibers with your fingers, and then wipe dry with a microfiber towel or spin clean in a Pad Washer.
