Is it still necessary to introduce Swissvax? Their reputation precedes them... Absolutely exceptional quality natural waxes, a distinctive finish that exudes refinement and elegance. Admittedly, the prices are often high or even very high, and therefore beyond the budget of most of us. That said, the legendary ease of application of their waxes, regardless of the model, the finish, and the low product consumption still make it a justified and justifiable choice for enthusiasts.

Today, we are testing Utopia, a somewhat "hybrid" wax, as we will call it (we will see why) on a shade renowned for being delicate yet absolutely stunning once treated (solid black).

Let's test it!

Description:

The Utopia wax offered by Swissvax is a little special, as it ultimately builds on the foundation of the Shield — present in the catalog for years — namely a PTFE (Teflon)-based composition, but with the addition of a very high content of Grade One carnauba (more than 55%). In the end, you get the best of both worlds between, for example, the Concorso and the Shield, combining the show car look with durability.



The high Grade One carnauba content results in a whiter color compared to other yellow carnauba waxes (Onyx, Mirage, Concorso, etc.). The cracked surface appearance is completely normal, again due to this high carnauba content.

The scent is just as captivating as ever! A blend of citrus notes that is somewhat reminiscent of the Concorso, with mango and coconut.

That is also part of the pleasure of a carnauba wax — beyond the visual result, it is the feeling of perfuming your car (and your workshop) during application. It is a genuine pleasure, especially when you are used to working with chemical products such as ceramic coatings, for example...

Application:

Before applying Utopia, and as with any wax from the brand, you should treat your paintwork with Cleaner Fluid Regular.



Cleaner Fluid Regular is an oil-based compound, essentially a glaze, which contains no abrasives (unlike Cleaner Fluid Medium or Strong). The purpose of this product is to allow the wax to bond to your paintwork by providing the oily layer that any carnauba requires.

Shake the Cleaner Fluid Regular bottle well to blend the oils, and use a microfiber pad (new if possible) to apply it.

Do not pour too much product onto the pad, as you will find that Cleaner Fluid Regular is very liquid and oily, meaning it spreads very easily. Worse, you could then struggle to wipe it off precisely because of that greasy nature.





Work Cleaner Fluid Regular in straight-line movements rather than circular ones. Cross your passes if needed.



Then wipe off without waiting — it is a glaze, so there is no benefit in letting it dwell; it works on contact.
Start with a thick microfiber (Bloody Mary, for example) and then follow up with a shorter-pile microfiber such as the Black Velvet, for example.





The criticism one could make of Cleaner Fluid Regular is that it is very (too) greasy. Wiping becomes a little tricky over time, even with a thick and very absorbent microfiber. Do not hesitate to change it regularly.

On the other hand, the visual shine given by Cleaner Fluid Regular is impressive! Enormous brilliance, especially on this solid shade, and a roundness to the curves of this Porsche as well.

You will also have no time to waste between wiping off your Cleaner Fluid Regular and applying your Utopia wax.

To apply your coat of wax, we recommend using a foam pad (new), such as the W-APS pads for example, which are excellent.

Lightly rub the pad across the surface of the pot. There is no need to overload your pad — a little more on the first application, but after that, very little is needed.
A carnauba wax is applied in a very thin layer.



Work Utopia in circular movements without pressure, and take care to overlap your passes well.
Applying Utopia is a true delight — you can clearly feel the oils present in the wax in addition to the carnauba.



I can also confirm that you will literally perfume your workspace once the application is complete. What a real pleasure!

The advantage with Swissvax natural waxes is that you can apply them on virtually any surface without the risk of whitening seals in particular.

The other major advantage of this wax (and of Swissvax waxes in general) is the ease of wiping. There is no real dwell time with this wax — you apply, you wipe (WOWO application: Wipe On, Wipe Off). But ultimately, you can very well apply the wax to several panels and wipe your first panel after several minutes without the risk of running into wiping difficulties. That is the great strength of Swissvax. Unfortunately, do not try this with other wax brands...

So wipe your wax off with another thick microfiber (Bloody Mary type). There is no resistance to wiping at all — the layer wipes off gently, leaving a superb finish!



Once your vehicle has been treated and perfectly wiped, Swissvax recommends (if possible) taking the car out into full sunlight to let the wax layer "sweat", bringing the vehicle back inside, and then carrying out a final finishing wipe with a suede cloth to remove any excess oils.



We recommend applying two coats of wax to ensure good coverage, and above all a perfectly uniform overall layer with no missed spots. Allow 2 to 4 hours between each coat depending on the conditions in your workspace (the warmer it is, the more you can reduce the interval).

Note the low product consumption. The photo was taken after one coat applied to a standard-sized vehicle (Porsche Cayman). It can thus be seen that it is possible to apply between 5 and 10 coats depending on the size of the car from a 50ml pot.



The finish left by Utopia is simply superb! Nothing to fault. You get everything in the end: shine, roundness, depth of color... A true feast for the eyes.







Conclusion:

Swissvax has a very serious reputation for its protective waxes, and Utopia, one of the latest created by the brand, is here again to confirm it. There is simply nothing to fault in the application, wiping, and finish of this wax. Utopia's Teflon base will also allow it, like its big sister Shield, to benefit from very respectable durability, especially heading into winter (expect up to 6 months with a double coat). You can thus enjoy good protection while displaying the look of a show car.
Now let's talk about the price. It is true that at €136 for a 50ml pot, it is an investment. But once again, this price must be compared with the product consumption per coat. An experienced applicator will know how to spread the coats well and can expect around 10 coats from one pot on a standard-sized vehicle. That works out to €13.6 per coat. If you compare financially with a ceramic coating priced at €80 for a 30ml vial allowing 3 coats (i.e. €27 per coat), you are ultimately half the price! Granted, the durability will not be the same, I concede that.
But Utopia will be an enthusiast's wax, for those who appreciate the finish so typical of Swissvax.
A purist's choice, in short.

To be tried at least once in a lifetime as a detailer, to (re)discover the pleasure of applying a great carnauba wax.
