Description:

A true "weapon of mass destruction" for all interior and exterior work, Green Star from German brand KOCH CHEMIE is an All Purpose Cleaner that will allow you to clean virtually every surface found on a vehicle.
Supplied in a 1L pure concentrate bottle, you can vary the dilution depending on the surface to be cleaned.

This article will help you discover the different dilutions of the product but above all the different possible uses of Green Star on your vehicle.


Possible dilutions:

Green Star has rare versatility — it will clean lightly soiled interiors, particularly plastics, with very high dilutions (beyond 1:50), or tackle grease deposits in engine bays for example with lower dilutions (1:5). Here is an example of uses and their corresponding dilutions.

- Greasy work (engine, wheel arches, etc.): 1:5 to 1:10
- Exterior plastic and trim cleaning: 1:20 to 1:30
- Injector/Extractor: 1:10 to 1:20
- Interior cleaning (fabrics, carpets, mats, plastics, etc.): 1:10 to 1:20
- Industrial floor washing: 1:40 to 1:120


Textiles/Carpets/Mats:

Green Star remains primarily an APC, although its cleaning power at low dilutions can bring it close to a degreaser.
However, at a high dilution (1:10 to 1:20), it will be perfect for interior cleaning on textiles (excluding alcantara).

We recommend starting with a 1:20 dilution (approximately 45ml in a 1L bottle) and observing the result. If needed, you can switch to 1:10 by doubling the amount of product.

Green Star is perfectly suitable for use in a standard spray bottle or also in an injector/extractor. We will first test its use with a standard spray bottle at a 1:20 dilution.

Simply spray Green Star directly onto the textile surface and allow it to dwell for approximately 30 seconds before agitating with a brush — ideally with fairly stiff bristles. The MOTHERS Upholstery Brush is really perfect for this. Green Star is a product that produces little foam when sprayed directly, which is ultimately not a bad thing as it greatly facilitates drying the surface with a microfibre.

Once your surface has been thoroughly agitated, do not let Green Star dry and proceed to wipe with one or more all-purpose microfibres. The Ultra Fine MF is perfectly suited for this use.



The cleaning power of Green Star is quite impressive, it must be said. Conventional dirt and soda stains in particular come off effortlessly at a 1:20 dilution. The smell of the product is fairly neutral and will not bother sensitive individuals.

Green Star can also be used with an injector/extractor as mentioned earlier — for this, the dosage will need to be slightly increased. Typically a 1:10 dilution will be perfect. Green Star will foam quite a bit, so if you find this reaction disruptive for your use with your injector/extractor, increase the dilution to 1:15 or 1:20.



Proceed to clean your surface as you normally would with your injector/extractor, taking care never to oversaturate the base (especially seats, as the foam could absorb moisture deeply and disintegrate, or never dry completely, causing moisture wicking and therefore water rings after washing).

Always agitate Green Star and extract the solution thoroughly, with an additional microfibre drying pass afterwards to ensure a perfectly dry surface condition.

Green Star will not alter the texture of your fibre at this dilution, for instance by making it brittle. It remains absolutely and perfectly effective and still brings up a fair amount of grime even after a first microfibre pass.







The carpet tested comes out perfectly clean, with a slight fresh scent without being overpowering. Note that Green Star, being an APC (All Purpose Cleaner), will in no way protect your textiles. Its sole purpose is to clean.


Interior plastics:

The dilution does not change for this use (1:20), which will be more than sufficient for dusting hard and foam-backed plastics for example, or cleaning rubberized surfaces such as pedal covers.
The process remains the same: spray onto the surface and agitate with a leather brush (soft bristles for plastics) or a pad brush for tighter spaces requiring deeper cleaning.












Engine cleaning:

Green Star can also be perfectly used to clean an engine bay even when greasy — simply increase the product concentration. Typically in this example, on a moderately dirty engine bay, the dilution used is 1:8. In hindsight, a dilution of 1:10 would have been more than sufficient.



Make absolutely sure the engine bay is completely cold before spraying Green Star onto the components, otherwise you risk having dried product residue on the surfaces.

Use brushes to agitate the product and promote cleaning. Rinse or dry the surfaces immediately afterwards, without waiting.





The action of Green Star at this dilution is truly impressive, in the sense that all grease and oil marks come off effortlessly, leaving a nice matte finish without altering the color of the plastics in particular.


Exterior plastics/tires, etc.:

Normally, a degreaser would be used to clean tire sidewalls and wheel arches, which are often heavily soiled. Green Star can work perfectly as an APC when diluted at 1:8 to 1:10 (down to 1:5 if needed).

Generously spray Green Star into your wheel arches and agitate with a brush (the EZ Go is perfect). Rinse and dry the surface.
For tires, in order to reach deeply embedded grime in the rubber, a stiff-bristled brush such as the MOTHERS Contoured Tire Brush, perfect for this task, will be needed.

The action of Green Star is also very good for this use — tire sidewalls come out nicely black, just as with a degreaser.

Our opinion:

KOCH CHEMIE, a true reference brand, offers with its Green Star a product that no longer needs to prove itself. With diabolical effectiveness on all types of stains (interior or exterior), its generous dilution ratios make it a reference product for all interior cleaning and washing tasks. A simple calculation with a 1:20 dilution for interior use gives us 22 litres of finished solution for €9.95 — an unbeatable price per litre.

Equally at home on the interior as on the exterior, Green Star can therefore suit your exterior cleaning tasks by increasing the product concentration.

Typically, with two dilution bottles — one for the interior at 1:20 and one for the exterior and engine at 1:10 — you can cover virtually all your needs.

Do note however a slightly excessive foaming action when used with an injector/extractor, which can be problematic if the product is too concentrated.

The lack of odor is also a major plus for customers' vehicles of professional detailers who do not want any interior fragrance.

In conclusion, Green Star is one of the references in the segment, if not THE reference, given its versatility and its value for money.
