GYEON Maintenance Preparation Protection

This article aims to introduce or re-introduce you to some of the essential references from the well-known technical brand GYEON, while highlighting certain subtleties among other things. These products will allow you to prepare a vehicle efficiently and safely with very convincing visual results.

Explanatory brief on the different families and notations:

At GYEON, you have no doubt noticed that product names are always preceded by Q2, Q2M, or Q2R for certain specific products.
We found it interesting to explain the reason, in order to better understand the classification of the different products within this brand.


Q2 Range: Top Quartz Products

The Q2 range brings together all silicon-based protection products (ceramic base) regardless of the surface (bodywork, windows, wheels, leather, fabric, etc.)
You will naturally find in this Q2 range all body ceramic coatings, whether they belong to the "Enthusiast" family (One, CanCoat), the "Professional" family (MOHS, Pure, Synchro, etc.), or the "Certified Detailer" family (MOHS+, Durabead, Duraflex, CanCoat Pro).




Q2M Range: Products and Accessories

There are in reality two Q2M sub-families, the letter M being dedicated to maintenance products and accessories. You will also find all car preparation products (pre-wash, clay, etc.)

Thus, there is a first sub-family Q2M Products for the products, but also a second Q2M Accessories for all accessories used for preparation and maintenance.






Q2R Range: Marine

The last GYEON product range is the Q2R for everything related to the treatment of boats and yachts. You will find specific products for boat coatings (gel-coat) in particular.




Q2M Foam:

GYEON offers its one and only pre-wash agent, the Q2M Foam. Usable on a dirty vehicle before renovation or for maintenance pre-washes, Q2M Foam has a neutral pH and will respect applied treatments, particularly ceramic coatings.




On a relatively dirty vehicle in routine maintenance, the recommended dosage will be approximately 80ml for use in a foam lance (snow foam cannon).

It is advisable to use Q2M Foam on an unrinsed vehicle, so as to allow the foam to adhere well to the surface to encapsulate contaminants. The dirtier the vehicle, the better.





The essential thing to keep in mind is to carry out your pre-wash on a completely cold surface. Never apply and allow pre-wash agents — and more generally any cleaning products — to dry on a hot surface, as this risks leaving very difficult-to-remove product streaks.





Start by spraying Q2M on the lower part of the vehicle and work upwards. You immediately notice that the foam film is not very thick but that the tension is perfect, as is the flow rate. The smell is not particularly pleasant but is neutral. The major advantage of Q2M Foam is also its ability to remain liquid on the surface while covering the vehicle for a long time for better encapsulation of dirt.



After a few minutes of dwell time, proceed to rinsing. You immediately notice that Q2M is "Wax-Safe" when rinsing, with the beading effect linked to the treatment initially applied to the car still very much present.

However, although Q2M is Wax-Safe (neutral pH), it has very good cleaning action and effectively removes or softens the layer of surface dirt. The subsequent two-bucket wash method is greatly facilitated as a result.





In the end, Q2M proves to be a very good foaming and cleaning agent — there is no need to add any shampoo to it. It will be perfect for maintaining your ceramic protection coatings.


Q2M Bathe+:

There are two shampoos with similar names at GYEON: the Q2M Bathe and the Q2M Bathe+.
The first is a maintenance shampoo for ceramic protection, while the second, the Bathe+, offers the same properties as the Bathe but greatly boosts the hydrophobic effect of the treatment.

We will see in this test that there are in reality 3 methods of using Bathe+.



The first possible use of Bathe+ is of course as a shampoo to wash the car classically using the two-bucket technique, diluting the product in the bucket.

The dilution of Bathe+ is extremely economical in this regard, as you will only need approximately 20ml of shampoo in a 10L bucket.



Note that once diluted in the bucket, Bathe+ does not foam enormously compared to other shampoos, but that is not the most important thing since it is not the foam that cleans — as we always say. However, this is often an important psychological criterion for some people.
We therefore recommend activating the shampoo a little in the bucket with a blast of the pressure washer if needed.



The concern one may feel when using extremely concentrated shampoos like Bathe+ is the impression of lacking lubrication when passing the wash mitt. However, this is not the case at all — Bathe+ will allow an effective wash on a treated vehicle.

Indeed, Bathe+ is and remains a maintenance shampoo for ceramic-treated vehicles. Do not expect this shampoo to provide a degreasing action like a "hard" shampoo either.



The great strength of Bathe+ is the very glossy finish it leaves on the bodywork. The "slick" (self-drying) effect is not exceptional but very decent.



The second method of applying Bathe+ consists of pouring a few drops of product directly onto the wash mitt once you have already washed and rinsed the car of course.
This application method will noticeably recharge the protection and the hydrophobic effect.

However, pay close attention to the quantity of product — do not use too much, and do not do it if the weather is too hot and the vehicle tends to dry quickly. Risk of marks guaranteed otherwise! If needed, treat one panel at a time and rinse immediately.





The third and final possible use of Bathe+ is directly in the foam lance as a "Hydrocoating". You will dilute approximately 50ml in your foam lance and top up with cold water (promotes the beading effect).
Once the vehicle has been washed as described and rinsed, spray Bathe+ using the foam cannon and rinse one minute later. The beading effect will be immediate.

Sorry, no illustration of this method as the weather was becoming too hot to safely test it on the bodywork.


Q2M Clay Mild and Q2M Clay Lube:



Gyeon offers two types of clays: one "Mild" (medium grade) and one "Hard" (heavy grade) depending on the level of contamination of the vehicle to be treated. The old green clay in its metal tin has now been replaced by the Mild.

Q2M Clay Lube is the lubricant offered by Gyeon for decontamination. It can be diluted up to 1:10 for light decontamination.

Avoid using Clay Lube undiluted as it could prove quite greasy when wiping. A dilution between 1:4 and 1:10 will be perfect. Top up with demineralized water of course.





You will then need to cut a piece of clay from the 100g bar provided. There is no need to use the complete piece.



Quick tip: if the clay proves quite hard (especially in cold weather), do not hesitate to dip it in a container of warm water to soften it.




Q2M Clay Mild or Hard can be used perfectly on bodywork, windows, and wheels with Clay Lube, or even with a ferrous decontaminant such as Q2M Iron to remove ferrous particles more effectively.

In use, Q2M proves very easy to knead, which is a plus when you need to re-fold it on itself once it becomes too loaded. Also, the glide provided by Clay Lube is truly perfect even diluted at 1:10. The advantage of such a high dilution is that wiping is made easier.





The Q2M Mild clay "picks up" contamination perfectly without force and above all without creating "marring" (light sanding marks), which is a major plus on a vehicle that does not require any real correction.

Fold it on itself so as to always make a new pass with a clean, uncontaminated face.

Do not hesitate to decontaminate your wheels and windows, especially if you then wish to apply a protection treatment afterwards. The latter will bond significantly better.





In conclusion, a clay/clay lube combination that proves worthwhile and will work perfectly to quickly decontaminate your car. Q2M Clay Lube is very economical due to its high possible dilution ratio, especially considering its retail price.


Q2M Cure:

The last product in this test, Q2M Cure, which will allow you to either apply a "stand alone" protection or boost an already existing ceramic protection.



Indeed, once your ceramic treatment has been applied (Q2 range), you will of course need to maintain it after your maintenance washes. To do so, Q2M is recommended as its chemical composition uses the same molecules as the Q2 treatments offered by GYEON, in a sprayable liquid multi-surface product.

On bodywork, Q2M can therefore boost the ceramic layer initially present with silicon dioxide (SiO2), bringing enormous gloss, a very soft feel, and considerably reinforcing the hydrophobic effect.

However, Q2M Cure can also be used as a standalone protection, offering durability of several months.

Spray Q2M Cure onto a surface of approximately 60cm x 60cm or directly onto a microfiber cloth. Then spread the product roughly in crossed linear movements and then turn the microfiber to proceed with wiping.





Wiping, which can seem quite laborious as the product tends to "streak" quite a bit (greasy marks visible when wiping). In short, Q2M Cure can prove complicated to wipe off perfectly. The trick is therefore to apply very little and to use several microfiber cloths (one for application, a second for wiping, and even a third suede one for the finishing wipe).

The photo below illustrates the greasy appearance when wiping.



Q2M Cure can be used on almost all surfaces (painted or bare plastics, wheels, exhausts, lights, etc.). Simply avoid glass surfaces as your wiping may become truly laborious, but otherwise there are no contraindications.








In conclusion, Q2M Cure is a very versatile maintenance product allowing excellent protection (expect several weeks or even several months depending on the conditions of use of the car). The visual result is very glossy and it will bring an extra softness to the touch immediately after application, with a truly remarkable hydrophobic effect.

However, its wiping may put some people off. Make sure you are well lit so as to be able to break through the residual greasy film after application.


General conclusion on the products presented:

Once again, the Korean brand Gyeon does not betray its reputation for quality. It offers products with a splendid finish and very convincing effectiveness. Also known as a highly technical brand, this can be seen through certain products such as Q2M Bathe+ or Q2M Cure with complex application techniques.
Nevertheless, they remain solid values, allowing proper maintenance of your car by the book with an overall controlled budget.
