Presentation:

Many people either confuse or fail to understand the difference between these two references from the GTechniq brand. Indeed, both products can be used on tires as their name suggests, but in this article we will look at the differences in use, and above all in finish, between these two products.


T2 Tyre Dressing:

T2 is a true reference product at Gtechniq. This product is designed for application on tires (Tyre dressing) to restore the original satin black finish while providing protection that repels dirt.

Before applying T2 or any other tyre dressing for that matter, a thorough cleaning of the sidewall of your tires will be necessary. This step is essential to properly degrease the surface and promote the adhesion of your dressing.

To do so, you can use the brand's all-purpose cleaner (APC), namely the W2.



Dilute it in a sprayer (or use it neat if you wish to tackle heavy soiling) and spray generously on the tire sidewall, then on a detail brush. Then agitate the surfaces and dry with a microfiber cloth. The surface must be completely dry before applying T2.



When you open the T2 bottle, you don't get the feeling of a very greasy product like some competing silicone-based references.
You find a kind of cream, with no unpleasant odor, and which doesn't run either. Therefore, T2 will be applied directly onto a specific foam applicator (tire sponge). You will not be able to spray T2 as it is not designed for that.



There is no need to apply too large a quantity of product on the applicator as you quickly realize that T2 "spreads" easily on the sidewall. Neither too liquid nor too greasy (which would cause drag), it applies beautifully. The amount shown in the photo is almost enough to go halfway around the tire (21 inches).



Note: It should be noted that any tire dressing will see its application and finish change depending on the brand of tire on which it is used. This largely depends on the elastomers chosen in the manufacture of the rubber.
In our case, it was a Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tire.

The finish once applied to the tire is truly excellent. No streaks, quite soft in appearance (more satin than matte but in no way glossy).
We do however recommend wiping off the excess after a few minutes even though T2 is not greasy if spread evenly.

A second coat can be applied (1 hour after the first) to further enhance the finish and even out the application if a few applicator marks appear. The durability of the protection will also be improved.

In the photo below, the finish of T2 after a second coat. More gloss without the "bling-bling" finish you get with heavily silicone-based products for example.






Conclusion on T2 (Tyre Dressing):

An excellent product overall. The finish is sublime for a tiny amount of product. The texture of the product means it applies beautifully without running.
The durability you can expect from this product is a few weeks at most for a regularly driven vehicle, which is already respectable for a tire dressing.
Thanks to T2, you will achieve a subtle finish that you can vary by adding more coats. Most importantly, your tire will have a hydrophobic protection that will tend to prevent various contaminants from penetrating the rubber.
Well worth trying for fans of subtle finishes, especially since the price (under €8) is very competitive.

T1 Tyre and Trim:

T1 is another reference in the GTechniq range that can also be used on tires. But not only... Indeed, you can also use T1 on all plastic surfaces, seals and other rubber materials.
A very versatile product, therefore. How does it differ from T2? We will examine this in this article.



The first element that differs from T2 is the texture. T1 is much more gel-like than creamy like T2. The color is also completely transparent where T2's is perfectly white.

Application will always be done using a foam pad or even a microfiber pad as the texture is quite greasy. Follow exactly the same procedure as described previously (T2 section) for preparing your surfaces (use of an APC).



You immediately notice that T1 is a little less easy to spread than T2 as it is much greasier. Make sure to spread it out well and work it across your tires, otherwise you risk having an excess on the surface.

Second observation: the finish left by T2 is much glossier in a single pass even after light wiping.



The black of the tires comes out much deeper, but for some of you the external appearance will be too greasy. There is no point in applying a second coat in that case, of course.

The advantage of T1 is the versatility of the product. You can also apply it to seals and other exterior plastics. Its formulation will effectively condition the surfaces and protect them against the harmful effects of sunlight in particular.





The finish on the seals is significantly better. Less pure gloss, better absorption. Less laborious wiping. A product to recommend.



T1 can also be used on the bare exterior plastic parts of the vehicle for protection purposes on new elements or to slightly repigment them once faded by the sun.



You will simply need to make sure to wipe thoroughly after application each time, as T1 remains quite greasy without wiping. Once wiped, however, it becomes dry to the touch.

Conclusion on T1 (Tyre and Trim):

The formulation is different from its counterpart T2, which is noticeable during application and in the finish. You can tell that the nourishing action of the product is more pronounced than in T1. The use of T1 should therefore be prioritized on exterior seals and plastics. You can of course apply T1 to tires if you wish, but you will need to be a fan of fairly glossy finishes.
Note that for the same packaging size (200ml), the product is significantly more expensive (€16.95 for T1 versus €7.95 for T2).
