Natural waxes are becoming less and less talked about, yet they have always existed. Today, it's all about new technology treatments (ceramic coatings)...

It's a real shame in the end, because there is still a small community of die-hards (true believers...) addicted to natural wax.
It is true that on warm shades, the result is incomparable. Warmth, roundness, softness — adjectives impossible to mention when talking about a quartz coating.

Today, we invite you to rediscover the basics of protective treatment in detailing, with a cleaner/glaze (Lime Prime Lite) and a carnauba wax specific to the color of the vehicle specially made available for this test.


Lime Prime Lite Usage:

Before anything else, make absolutely sure your bodywork is perfectly prepared (decontamination at a minimum and polishing recommended). This is essential to promote the adhesion of your treatment.

Let's then turn our attention to Lime Prime Lite from the famous brand DODO JUICE. This is the abrasive-free version of Lime Prime from the same brand. The latter contains mild abrasives, making it in reality an All In One (AIO).
On the other hand, Lime Prime Lite contains NO abrasives whatsoever. It is a simple cleaner (cleaning/purifying role for your paintwork) that contains oils to also play the role of a glaze (polisher).



The use of Lime Prime Lite will be essential for more than one reason. Firstly, because it will ensure a perfect surface condition before applying the wax (it cleans and removes old wax layers, removes brightening agents and clay lubricant polymers etc.).
Secondly, by providing the necessary oils (glaze role) it will prepare the adhesion of your wax coat.
Indeed, a carnauba wax, like those in the DODO JUICE range, requires an oily base to adhere properly.

The application of Lime Prime Lite can therefore be done in two ways. Either by hand with a simple foam pad (Type W-APS from Chemical Guys) or by orbital machine.

We will study both application methods.

Start by applying a circle of Lime Prime Lite on a foam applicator in the case of a manual application.



The product spreads very easily thanks to the oils it contains. You need to use very little (except at the beginning to load the pad). For example, the amount on the pad in the photo can be enough to treat an entire hood. Like any glaze, there is no need to over-load, you will not nourish your paintwork any more but you will simply waste product.



The film of Lime Prime Lite should be sufficient outdoors (creation of a greasy film) without being too thick. In case of an over-coat, make another pass with your pad without adding more product.



Then proceed to wipe off without waiting. Ideally, choose a thick microfiber such as the Bloody Mary as fatty substances load and saturate low-density microfibers very quickly. You can, in a second step if your coat was a little thick, make a second pass with a finer microfiber.



Once wiped off, the feel left by Lime Prime Lite is particularly silky. It considerably softens the paintwork.



The other possible application method for Lime Prime Lite is by orbital machine. You will apply it at low speed (2-3 max) in a single cross pass.
To do this, use a very soft pad, called a Finessing pad, used specifically for applying glazes and liquid waxes. The one used in the test is a red finessing pad from FICTECH.

Pour a peripheral circle at the edge of the pad and set your machine to speed 2.





The advantage of this application method is the time saved, particularly on large panels (hood, roof). However, you should not work the glaze for too long (nor too quickly) at the risk of seeing it dry on the surface. A simple cross pass. For tight spaces (windshield pillar, rocker panels, bumper) we recommend using a manual pad as seen previously.



After full application, Lime Prime Lite reveals a superb wet look effect on the car, enhancing the vehicle's lines. This is partly due to the oils present in the product. This is what is known as the Wet Look.

A product to absolutely recommend before applying a natural or hybrid wax to your car.


Orange Crush Usage:

The DODO JUICE range is ultra-comprehensive and allows you to find a wax suited to the color or shade of your car. In addition, you will find Hard or Soft waxes, which allow application by pad and/or by hand. The Hards will be more for durability and the Softs for pure aesthetic appeal.



Given the color of the test vehicle specially selected for this article (Megane 4 RS in Orange Tonic shade) the Orange Crush model was perfectly suited! A superb look-oriented wax, specific for warm shades (Orange, yellow, red).



The great advantage with DODO JUICE is that you can test their waxes at a contained price in the sense that they are offered in very affordable 30ml formats (€7.95 per pot). 4 to 5 coats possible with this format.

This wax can be applied by pad or directly by hand (meaning an application using the palms of your hands directly) as it is a Soft wax.

If you prefer pad application, no problem, use once again a simple foam pad (W-APS for example) new if possible.
Gently rub the pad on the surface of the wax. You notice the soft side of the wax, the surface being very soft. Therefore, do not apply too much wax to the applicator. The thinner the coat of wax, the easier the wipe-off once again.





The amount of wax present on the pad in the photo above easily allows you to treat the entire hood.

Proceed in circular movements and cross passes. Do not hesitate to slightly overlap the previous pass to achieve perfect coverage in the end.





When you start to see the "haze" appear, meaning the less greasy but more milky film, it will then be time to proceed with wiping using another thick microfiber (type Bloody Mary).





Wiping off Orange Crush is an absolute breeze. No drag under the microfiber, no residual greasy marks, a delight. The scent of this wax is also very pleasant. Your vehicle is subsequently literally perfumed.

Finally, let's talk about the finish of the wax. We already had a beautiful wet effect after applying Lime Prime Lite. Here we get the second visual wow. The Orange Tonic of this Megane comes out beautifully. Much more oily effect, an even softer feel.







Last point to address: beading (water droplet formation). Typically, carnauba waxes like Orange Crush are known for offering superb beading. Nice large and tight droplets. Indeed, carnauba in contact with water closes its pores and swells.

So, with Orange Crush, the phenomenon is fully present. More than a visual pleasure, this hydrophobic effect created will be beneficial for your future maintenance. Your washes will be greatly facilitated.



Conclusion:

DODO JUICE has built its reputation around natural waxes, making this protection their specialty. You can understand why in the sense that everything contributes to the pleasure of treating your car. The ease of application of Lime Prime Lite and Orange Crush are prime examples. As is the wipe-off and the visual result.

Of course, you should not expect significant durability from this type of treatment (count on 2-3 months if well maintained) but for a vehicle that is driven infrequently, in dry weather, and whose owner enjoys being able to maintain it, then these products will be top-notch!

Now let's talk finances. Lime Prime Lite is offered at €17.95 in 250ml and Orange Crush at €7.95 in 30ml. Given the very low product consumption each time, the cost per coat is negligible compared to synthetic ceramic treatments in particular. Two different philosophies in the end for the same pleasure: that of protecting and maintaining your car.
