Bare Bones by CHEMICAL GUYS is a somewhat unique product in that it is one of the few products dedicated to the underbody of the car. On a vehicle, it is just as important to treat the visible parts as the non-visible ones (wheel arches, chassis, underbody, etc.)
This is where Bare Bones comes into play to ensure that all these particularly exposed areas age well against the aggressions of the road.


Presentation:

Bare Bones is a liquid product, but quite viscous (greasy). You notice this immediately when shaking the bottle.

It will be particularly suited to older vehicles with undercoating everywhere and no wheel arch liners. This product can also be used to treat plastic wheel arches and all suspension and chassis components of the car.

Once the components are treated, the role of Bare Bones will be to create an anti-corrosion film on the one hand, but above all to repel the build-up of various dirt (mud, sand, etc.). It will also restore the black colour to plastic components often dulled by salt, repeated washes (limescale), UV rays, etc.



Usage:

As always, you will need to make sure to degrease the surfaces thoroughly before applying Bare Bones, otherwise the product will not penetrate the surface and you will simply be spreading it over the dirt...

To do so, use a degreaser that you will dilute according to the level of dirt on the surfaces to be treated. Orange Degreaser by CHEMICAL GUYS is an excellent degreaser. We diluted it at 1:4 in this example given the grime in the wheel arches. You can dilute it further when the wheel arches are lightly soiled, or use it undiluted for heavy grime.
Use various brushes and applicators to thoroughly clean the surfaces.





Pay particular attention to the bare bodywork areas and suspension components for example, as Bare Bones is applied directly on them.
Finally, dry the cleaned areas thoroughly before applying the product.



Bare Bones can be applied in two different ways. Either by spraying directly onto the surface and wiping immediately. Or by spraying onto a microfibre applicator and then applying it to the areas to be treated with a short dwell time (better durability).




To avoid spraying everywhere, we strongly recommend applying it on a microfibre pad — the product will also bond better to the treated surfaces.



Bare Bones is a very greasy product upon application and even when sprayed from the bottle. It is notably oil-based, which explains this very viscous nature.

You immediately notice that the plastic wheel arch liners turn black again like new, the same goes for the raw undercoated bodywork areas (even more visible when they are black).



To reduce this greasy effect — both visually and to the touch — don't hesitate to wipe the treated areas with an all-purpose microfibre cloth. The dwell time before wiping is approximately 2 minutes.

Take the opportunity to treat hoses, shock absorbers, suspension arms, etc.




Chassis and other plastic components underneath the chassis are particularly exposed. Take the opportunity to treat them with Bare Bones to restore them and prevent premature wear. Once again, make sure to dry off the product to reduce the finish.





Bare Bones is a versatile product as it can be used on all exterior plastic elements of the car (bumpers, trim strips, etc.) but also on rubber materials such as seals and tyres.
Not really the ideal product due to its very greasy texture that is difficult to spread, but for lovers of glossy finishes, it will be perfect.

Bare Bones will delight the most purist among us — those who want their vehicle treated absolutely everywhere, including in the hidden areas. That is ultimately what detailing is all about...

In this regard, Bare Bones truly restores the new look to wheel arch components and applies a protective film to repel dirt. Especially on older vehicles, this product will be indispensable when embarking on a thorough treatment.

Its genuinely greasy texture can be off-putting, particularly in terms of the visual result. You will therefore need to wipe the product off thoroughly after a few minutes of dwell time.

The sprayer can also clog quickly due to the viscosity of the product. For application on a microfibre pad as in the example, it may be advisable to pour the product directly onto the applicator.
