What is ceramic protection?
Ceramic protections are the most durable treatments in Detailing. They are no longer simply a protective layer on the surface of the clear coat like carnauba waxes or even synthetic waxes, but truly products that bond with the outer surface of the clear coat to form a new, extremely dense layer, smoothing the microscopic imperfections of the surface, with the aim of creating a highly durable protective barrier.
What are the advantages of a ceramic treatment?
- The main reason for applying a ceramic wax is the desire to protect your vehicle (bodywork, rims) for several years. Treatments have a durability of between 12 and 36 months (depending on the product used, and especially how it is maintained during the following years).
- Achieving a completely hydrophobic surface that repels water and contaminants very easily, making your daily washes easier. Shine is also greatly enhanced.
- Strong resistance to chemicals. Unlike natural or synthetic waxes, ceramics do not disappear after simply using a strong shampoo or degreaser. Be careful, however, not to do so too often, as you risk seeing the protection disappear faster than expected.
How to apply a ceramic protection?
Yes, applying a ceramic coating has many advantages. Unfortunately it is not easy and requires optimal application conditions. If you do not feel up to doing it yourself, entrust your car to a professional.

1) The rims must be completely clean, decontaminated and polished if necessary before applying the treatment. You must therefore work on a completely clean surface. Without this step the ceramic will not bond to the surface.
2) Apply the ceramic in cross passes. Apply a few drops to the applicator, then make a first vertical pass followed by a second overlapping horizontal pass.
3) Application time between 2 and 5 minutes depending on the outside temperature. 2 minutes are sufficient at a temperature of around twenty degrees.
4) METICULOUS wiping with a microfiber cloth. Do not leave any marks; after 15 minutes polishing is required to remove marks, so be very careful.
5) No contact with water or dust for the next 24 hours.
How to maintain a vehicle protected with ceramic?
In order to make the protection last as long as possible, it is important to properly maintain your vehicle. The simplest thing is to apply a spray sealant such as Reload from Carpro or the C2v3 from Gtechniq a few hours after application, then 3 months, 6 months and 9 months later.
It is very important to maintain your vehicle with gentle, non-aggressive products. For example, when using a pressure washer, use only water and not the aggressive shampoos from car wash stations. If this is respected, you will obtain durable and highly resistant protection!
