What is ceramic protection?
Ceramic coatings are the most durable detailing treatments available. They are no longer simply a protective layer on the surface of the clear coat, like carnauba or synthetic waxes, but are products that truly bond with the outer surface of the clear coat to form a new, extremely dense layer, smoothing out microscopic surface imperfections, with the aim of creating a highly durable protective barrier.
What are the benefits of a ceramic coating?
- The main reason for applying a ceramic coating is the desire to protect your vehicle (bodywork, wheels) for several years. Treatments offer durability of between 12 and 36 months (depending on the product used, and especially how well it is maintained during the following years).
- The result is a completely hydrophobic surface that repels water and contaminants very easily, making your daily washes simpler. Shine is also greatly enhanced.
- Strong resistance to chemicals. Unlike natural or synthetic waxes, ceramics do not disappear after simple use of a strong shampoo or degreaser. Be careful, however, not to do this too often, as you risk seeing the protection disappear faster than expected.
- Ability to mask light swirls (very fine micro-scratches) and prevent their reappearance.
How to apply a ceramic coating?
Yes, applying a ceramic coating has many advantages. Unfortunately it is not easy and requires optimal application conditions. If you do not feel confident doing it yourself, entrust your car to a professional.

1) Once the first steps of a renovation have been completed (pre-wash, wash, wheels, decontamination, polishing), you can move on to applying a ceramic coating. The first step is to apply a cleaner over the entire bodywork (such as Carpro Eraser) in order to remove all oils and other contaminants resulting from the polishing process. Without this step, the ceramic will not bond to the clear coat.
2) Apply the ceramic coating in cross passes. Apply a few drops onto the applicator, then make a first vertical pass and a second overlapping horizontal pass.
3) Curing time between 2 and 5 minutes depending on the outside temperature. 2 minutes is sufficient at around twenty degrees.
4) METICULOUS wiping with a microfiber cloth. Do not leave any marks — after 15 minutes, polishing is required to remove them, so be very careful.
5) No contact with water or dust for the next 24 hours.
How to maintain a vehicle protected with a ceramic coating?
In order to make the protection last as long as possible, it is important to properly maintain your vehicle. The simplest thing is to apply a spray sealant such as Carpro Reload or Gtechniq C2v3 a few hours after application, then again at 3 months, 6 months and 9 months.
It is very important to maintain your vehicle with gentle, non-aggressive products. For example, when using a pressure washer, use only water and not the aggressive shampoos found at car wash stations. If this is followed, you will achieve long-lasting and very resistant protection!
